WOT- FV215B - Heavy Tank

Videos

Review

GEAR/EQUIPMENT:
Vert / Rammer / Vents
BIA / 6th + repairs / optional (suggested gunnery + support)

Unlike virtually every other heavy, GLD is not necessary and spall liner provides no real benefit.

FIREPOWER:
+ Exceptionally good aim time, very good DPM
+ Good accuracy, good pen, ok alpha
+ Surprisingly good HESH round (it can work against arty/lights)
- Average depression, but on a rear mounted tank its very difficult to actually use it

Conclusion:  The depression is a serious flaw of the tank, but the tank has a lot of good points as well. Good DPM, fast aiming, and pinpoint accuracy make it an effective sniper or peekaboomer.

PROTECTION:
+ Solid frontal, turret, and side armor
+ High HP
- prone to module issues, especially tracks
- arty frequently pens your flat front

Conclusion:  The FV 215 was built to side scrape. When you can pull it off, the tank becomes extremely difficult to kill. Although it has one obvious weak point and module issues, this tank is among the best positional defenders in the game.

MOBILITY:
+ Turns quickly
- Low top speed, not so great acceleration

Conclusion:  Its about average for a heavy.

COMPARED TO PEERS:
+ Exceptional side scraping, good overall toughness
+ Good sniper, good peekaboomer/brawler
- Depression is a serious flaw, difficult to fight on many maps
- When you can't sidescrape you are just a really awkward fattie

This tank has some major pluses. Its the best sniper in tier, giving it some value as support fire. Its also a beastly brawler when it can sidescrape, utilizing high HP, good toughness, and fast aiming to be a nasty peekaboomer. Although this tank is clearly at its best on flat ground in a city sidescraping, even when you can't its brute force is still high enough to compete.

CLAN WARS:
Rarely used. Although it had a surge of popularity when first introduced (primarily because of its great DPM), it quickly fell from favor because rear mounted turrets are difficult to mass or go around corners with. The tank needs a little room and time to play to its strengths, and in CW that's not how the game is played.

BOTTOM LINE:

The FV is a tactical specialist. It brutalizes peekaboom brawls using sidescrape, hull down, and so forth. On maps like ensk or hummelsdorf, this tank is one of the best tanks in the game. It can also snipe on flat maps, or just try to brute force its way through fights with some success. But the tank is also vulnerable to arty, not effective in blobs/pushes, needs space to work, is vulnerable to flanks, and has such crap depression it struggles a lot of the time. It almost needs an ideal situation to dominate, and otherwise, its just awkward.

Verdict:  5/10
